Frost effects in lime and cement-treated soils
Study to examine frost-resistant qualities of selected lime-soil and cement-soil mixtures; mixtures, composed of 96% by weight of soil and 4% lime or cement, were subjected to delays of 0, 3 and 72 hr after admixing of water, before they were compacted; all hydrated high calcium, semihydraulic and dolomitic limes were used; soils studied were clay, silty loam and clay loams; test specimens were moist cured for 28 days prior to undergoing freeze-thaw testing; resistance to frost heave, unconfined compressive strength and index of resistance to frost action were examined.
