Settlement of embankment resting on semi-infinite elastic soil
In theoretical determination of settlement of embankment, ground is assumed to be semi-infinite mass of elastic isotropic homogeneous soil with plane upper boundary; load applied by embankment on ground surface is approximated by linearly distributed pressure; settlement coefficients were calculated for seven points of contact area between embankment and soil mass by integration of Boussinesq formula for settlement due to single normal load; practical examples are presented.
