Solution of unusual subsurface drainage problem
Details are given of stages in design of subsurface drainage system of inner ring road in city of Antwerp, Belgium, including execution of extensive field pumping tests, analysis of alternative solutions to problem, and study of hydraulics of horizontal intake pipes adopted to effect groundwater lowering; effect of precipitation of ferric oxide from groundwater which complicated design, and necessitated complete submergence of intake system is considered.
