Realistic job-mix formula tolerances for asphalt-concrete
Study by New York State Dept of Public Works to determine uniformity of asphalt-concrete top course mix to establish realistic gradation control specifications; 868 hot-bin and 682 mix sample data were processed and analyzed by electronic computer and from results it is concluded that mix gradation depends on method of testing, i.e., hot-bin analysis or extraction test; hot-bin method is more meaningful when related to coarse aggregate than when related to fine aggregate, whereas reverse is true with extraction test.
