Deterministic dynamic programming is used with operational hydrology to find optimal reservoir operating rules; objective is to find that annual operating policy of single reservoir having economic loss associated with each draft rate which minimizes expected loss; proposed method of analysis uses both deterministic dynamic programming and hydrologic simulation or operational hydrology; it is suggested that this type of approach be called Monte Carlo Dynamic Programming.
