Expansion and revision of Kawaihae Harbor, Hawaii
Model of harbor and sufficient offshore area in 1 to 100-scale to permit generation of required test waves was used to investigate arrangement and design of certain harbor improvements with respect to wave action and to determine current directions and velocities in navigation channel; proposed harbor improvements consisted of widening entrance channel and enlarging turning basin, dredging small craft basin in rear of harbor, and constructing protective wave absorber in front of small-craft harbor; 52-ft-long wave machine and electrical wave-height measuring and recording apparatus were utilized in model operation.
