Development of sheerness
Design and construction of new general cargo deep water berth; site investigation showed that substrata is reasonably consistent of deep layer of loose silty sand and silt to depth of between -70 and -80 Admiralty Chart Datum (ACD), followed by layer of soft silty clay between 4 and 14 ft thick which overlays gravel stratum between 2 and 12 ft thick; use of bored piling and berths with reinforced concrete deck slab supported on main and secondary reinforced concrete beams, which are in turn supported on piles; construction procedures.
