Improvement of facilities of port of Tunis-la Goulette
Description of new type quay, so-called open-caisson buttressed quay based on principle of buttressed dam and involving use of inclined thrust face favoring structure's stability; 360 m long quay is constituted by 11 reinforced concrete caissons 30 m long 13 m high having trapezoidal cross section, founded at -12.7 m and topped by 100 cm high concrete crest; caisson weighing 1800 tons is divided into five compartments by 25 cm thick trapezoidal shells which expand on water side into vertical pillars 1.50 m wide and 0.75 m thick; description of slip for launching prefabricated caissons, and method of their floating, tipping, and sinking.
