Post-war coast protection works along south-east coast of England
Works are, in main, reconstructions and adaptations to existing but insufficient works; earthen seawalls consist primarily of local clay and loam; new Thames tidal wall consists in raising, strengthening, and thickening earth wall and construction of concrete block and stepped apron; blocks are 15 in. sq and 8 in. in depth; lower edge on seaward side is sustained by concrete toe wall.
