Existing quay walls of mass concrete gravity type retaining walls, 24 ft high, built in 1820, had to be strengthened to prevent any further settlement of lateral displacement; besides, provision had to be made for dredging harbor; single line of steel sheet piles, 40 ft long were driven in front of existing wall; static calculation based on Rankine method.
