Tunnel is 18 ft wide, 24 ft high, and about 18,000 ft long; it will accommodate railroad locomotive on standard-gage track; with exception of last 1700 ft, tunnel is supported by steel sets embedded in concrete lining; chief problem in driving tunnel resulted from penetration of section of incompetent ground several hundred feet in length; operating cycle, equipment, engineering practices, and performance data.
