Building height tripled by new thinking plus new steel
Method for erecting steel frame building 17 stories high on foundations originally built to carry concrete frame structure of 6 stories; additional footings were installed outside area of original structure and Vierendeel girders 14 ft 8 in. deep used to span 70 ft at top of building; from these girders interior floor loads for upper 6 stories are suspended while original foundations carry lower floors.
