Surveying problems encountered during sinking of parkside colliery
Surveying operations and construction of shafts in coal mine at Manchester, England; 2 base lines, each consisting of 4 survey stations, were set on surface; one baseline was 3053 ft long, 150 ft south of proposed shafts, and parallel to them; other was 3561 ft long and 100 ft east of easterly shaft; 2 shafts are 24 ft diam, 200 ft apart, mass concrete lined throughout and steel tubbing was used as shuttering for concrete; foreshaft sinking; sump connecting tunnel; shaft equipping and towers; operations described represent only small portion of already completed work.
