Investigations of stresses in drill bit and rock under static loads
Photoelastic technique of experimental stress analysis was principal method used to obtain data; transparent models and transmitted light were employed to investigate patterns in drill-bit models and isotropic materials under bit when subjected to concentrated static load; comparative stress data for anisotropic rock were obtained by reflective photoelastic technique; brittle lacquer and extensometer were used to obtain supplementary information wherever substantiating data were desired to check photoelastic results.
