Variation in highway slipperiness characteristics with location
Study compares slipperiness of various pavement areas, some of which are not easily accessible to conventional road slipperiness measuring methods; British portable tester was used to compare slipperiness characteristics of wheel tracks with those of other lateral areas of highway pavement, and characteristics of level tangents to those of other symmetrically shaped areas; 26 sites covered range of surface types, textures, and coefficients of friction; coefficient of friction varies both longitudinally and laterally; steel deck bridge was extremely slippery.
