In reinforced concrete highway structures special type of construction can be used effectively where headroom is limited over full span, where span is not too great, and especially if roadway is wide; in design with solid slab not subjected to direct horizontal pressures, it is economical to use tapering vertical members in which ratio of effective depth at top to that at bottom is equal to 3 and variation in depth is made according to straignt line; critical section for bending moment is also derived.
