Two Cedarapids pavers, equipped with elaborate electronic controls, special extensions and builtup distributor screws, worked in echelon to put down full 32-ft width of asphalt roadway including slopes for extra-thick shoulder areas, in Maryland's Northeastern Expressway; screed control on lead paver uses long flexible metal beam, riding on spring loaded feet to pick up variations in grade; sensor relays data to screed adjuster motor; trailing paver picks up grade from mat left by lead paver with short foot riding on mat; paving operations described.
