A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Reference is made to Kinta Valley as main center of Malayan tin industry and to widespread erosion leading to rapid deterioration of river, caused by progressive mining of catchment area; early local attempts to remedy this deterioration; discussion of post-war canalization of 22 mi length of river, forming Kinta River deviation; attempt is made to consider available information affecting catchment runoff and to relate this to capacity and characteristics of channel as constructed; main points in construction of different sections of deviation are described. (See also Instn Civ Engrs -- Proc v 24 Jan 1963 p 29-46, 2 plates)
