Earth-covered reservoir rests on piles
Method of extensive piling used in construction of Metro Winnipeg's new 45 million gal freshwater reservoir and pumping station in St. Boniface; reservoir walls rest on battered concrete piles and migration of water into surrounding soil is curbed by 3500 ft of corrugated cutoff walls; floor slabs are designed as floating members to move with resilient, rubbery clay; structure is covered with 9 in. concrete slab, insulated by 2 ft earth to keep out impurities and prevent contamination.
