Effect of impeller design changes on characteristics of model dredge pump
Dredge pumps designed for pumping of sand water mixtures are used frequently to pump silt, clay, or silt clay water mixtures, as part of channel maintenance by hopper dredges; study involved recommendations for design changes of impeller and investigation of 4 differently modified impellers; work was performed with water and silt-clay-water mixtures; analysis indicates that modifications in exit angle and vane shape of impeller result in marked increase in pump efficiency; relationship between parameters such as discharge, speed and liquid density was established for impellers investigated.
