Sulfate resistance of asbestos-cement pipe
Laboratory and field exposure tests; presence of free lime in asbestos cement materials has direct relationship to durability of products when exposed to sulfate environments; autoclave curing of autoclave formulation (including silica) greatly reduces per cent of free lime; with combination of autoclave curing and autoclave formulation, type I (regular) cement has free lime content and sulfate resistance about equal to that of type V (sulfate resistant) cement.
