Recommendations regarding pile-driving practice, which are directed towards elimination of failures, particularly tensile failures, during driving of prestressed concrete piles; causes of failure during driving and measures that have proved effective; details from number of jobs where failures have occurred are tabulated and failures discussed in terms of driving practices adopted; theory governing development of stresses within prestressed concrete pile during driving and procedure for designing driving conditions so as to limit these stresses to acceptable value presented.
