Installation problems with cast-in-place concrete piles
Problems in design and installation of cast-in-place concrete piles in lengths of over 70 ft, especially in mixed soils with mud strata; piles averaging 90 ft in length were made up of 68 ft thin corrugated shell with 25 ft or more of 10 3/4 in. pipe at bottom; prompt filling of piles with concrete put excess pressure on side and stopped squeezing; technique produced piles that carry 70 tons each with maximum settlement of 1/4 in.
