Laterally loaded piles in layered soil system
Effect of 2-layer soil system on behavior of laterally loaded pile is investigated analytically in nondimensional terms; moment and shear loads are applied at ground surface; surface layer is described by subgrade modulus; finite pile length of 4 R was studied, in which depth of surface layer was made function of R; it is shown that seasonal variations in stiffness of surface layer can exert controlling influence on pile behavior under lateral loads.
