Protecting offshore piling from corrosion
Light-gage stainless steel can protect steel piling in splash and tidal zones more cheaply than current alternative methods; stainless sheathing also eliminates maintenance; 4-yr barge-field test was made in Texas offshore area; piling areas and steelwork above splash zone were sandblasted, painted with 2 coats of epoxy red-lead primer, and then covered by 2 coats of yellow epoxy paint.
