Description of construction of 34 story reinforced concrete office building in Great Britain; building site is underlain with blue clay requiring extensive foundation investigation; total building load is transferred deep into clay by total of 163 straight piles 3 ft in diam on 8 ft 6 in. grid; concrete mix used had proportions by weight of 1.0 to 2.05 to 3.20 with water-cement ratio of 0.5 and maximum aggregate size of 3/4 in.; minimum 28-day works strength specified for particular mix was 4121 psi.
