Hydrostatic pressures under canal measured accurately
Because of limited funds available and wide span of canal, New Orleans, La, built reinforced concrete drainage conduit as rigid frame hinged at its connection with bottom; to ascertain true pressures acting, perforated pipes were installed in bottom of canal during construction; when canal was completed, liquid level gages were installed on top of it to measure pressure under canal bottom.
