Mechanism of transformation of alloys from one crystalline state to another is discussed with special reference to alloys of iron with aluminum, silicon and cobalt; change may take place suddenly or through intermediate state in which properties of both phases are detectable; theory is suggested in which existence of limiting states is assumed.
