Dredge rids river of silt from irrigation water
Problems arising when silt, removed from Colorado River water at beginning of All-American Canal for irrigation, is dumped back into Colorado River; stopgap solution is provided by Bureau of Reclamation, which shunts sludge removed from irrigation water to swamp downstream from desilting work, uses diesel-powered suction dredge at swamp to remove silt from settling basin and distributes it throughout swamp; as end result, swamp filled in with sandy silt will become desert, and Colorado River will be cleaner.
