More efficient use of plywood's inherent strength, and more imaginative shapes for plywood components are achieved by turning sheets of plywood so that structural loads flow through edges instead of being taken on flat sides of panels; panels act as structural diaphragms, resisting stresses through their breadth rather than just their thickness; method is illustrated by lakeside pavilion in California City, triangular roof of new Sinai Reform Temple in Bayshore, NY, and faceted roof for church in Linda Mar, Calif; testing for reliability and fabrication of shapes.
