Report of studies on metal encased, high fired brick installed with only hot face expansion allowance in restricted arches of open hearth roofs; tests were made with 40, 60, and 80% MgO high fired brick; higher thrusts are generated in arches of high fired brick than in arches of chemically bonded brick; this results from superior volume stability and creep resistance of high fired brick; suggestions on expansion allowances are included.
