Significance of special nail in residential frame construction
Results of mechanical tests for withdrawal resistance and lateral load carrying capacity, with different types of lumber, indicate that use of special nails can significantly upgrade residential frame construction, particularly in areas subject to severe storms, blasting and earthquakes; types tested were longitudinally fluted and diagonally barbed square-wire nails, twisted square-wire nail, helically fluted round-wire nail, and Austrian sheet-metal nail; these nails are more efficient on uniform weight basis; whether they are or could be more economical in use depends on price at which they are sold.
