Dried and sieved gypsum is mixed with 70 g. of clay 350 c.c. of ammonia and 600 c.c. of water in autoclave, mixture being well stirred and current of carbon dioxide bubbled through; maximum yield of ammonium sulphate (96.6 per cent) is obtained after 40 minutes treatment at initial and final temperatures of 70 and 48 deg., respectively. (see also brief translated abstract in Rock Products, vol. 31, no. 4, Feb. 18, 1928, p. 94)
