At Fief de Lambrechies (Belgium) coal mines, washery waste ranging from 0 to 3 1/8 in. in. size is carried by belt conveyor of 12 tons hourly capacity to hopper of 3540 cu. ft. capacity at pit head; water is admitted at head of this pipe to bring water content of mixture delivered at pit bottom up to 20 per cent; downpipe has lasted two years without renewal, amount of shale delivered being 70 tons per day.
