Objects of not more than normal brick size seldom show drying cracks unless dried at excessive temperature; firing cracks are infrequent but may develop from unnoticed drying cracks; insufficiently dried bricks are likely to suffer in kiln, especially if subjected too quickly to full heat; formation of cracks can be prevented by recognizing and eliminating source of failure.
