A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Illustrations are given showing stages in forging 90 or 100-ton ingot in 6000-ton press to make drum 11 m. in length, 1.4 m. in diam., and 60 mm. thick; special alloy steels can be used for such drums and this introduces entirely new technique; author discusses formation of "pipes" and blowholes in ingots and comments upon relative risks which they introduce.
