Slurry supports cutoff trench walls
Slurry, used in construction of cutoff trenches at Wanapum Dam, Wash, is moisture absorbing mixture of water and bentonite clay; mixture is emulsion somewhat heavier than water and, performing as coating, it prevents entrance of ground water; slurry, with backfill material dumped into it, gives dense, impervious mass; three portable plants, each with capacity of 15 bbl of slurry/min, mix slurry. (see also Eng News-Rec v 164 n 6 Feb 11 1960 p 42-4, 46)
