Construction of 280 ft high arch dam of Kukuan hydroelectric project involved stabilizing of canyon walls with 5 ft thick reinforced concrete "pins", rather than applying costlier and slower method of rock bolting; 20 to 50 ft deep holes were driven into canyon wall with 30 ft centers; holes were filled by grout, using old railroad rails as reinforcement.
