Equation is presented; factors considered are bracket effects depending on depth of water from top of crest, density of water, height of dam, radius of horizontal arch, coefficient of width of arch, bending moment, shearing stress, and elasticity coefficient of concrete and of foundation; safety limits for bending stresses.
