Heavy concrete mixed in transit
Shielding concrete for Alternating Gradient Synchrotron of Brookhaven National Laboratory at Upton, NY, was made with ilmenite ore as aggregate by conventional mixing; concrete was made into precast blocks to form enclosure; blocks are removable for future assemblies; additional shielding in form of tunnel; shield walls are 10 ft thick and roof 4 ft thick; roof beams have been designed to support another 4 ft layer if required.
