Why Washington, D.C.'s water system has built nation's -- Second longest prestressed span
New 216 ft span provides vehicular and pedestrian access to newly completed Little Falls Pumping Station, across Potomac River; roadway of bridge is only 16 ft wide; hollow box girder structure has midspan depth of 7 ft, increasing to 12 ft at supports; girders form side walls of box and contain prestressing elements; prestressing cable is located near bottom of girders at midspan and near top at ends.
