Load-bearing brickwork in modern construction
Structural design and general functional requirements, as well as costs, are considered; it is suggested that comparison of costs of different framed and load bearing constructions for buildings up to 5 stories high seem to indicate that load bearing walls in brickwork are expensive, especially if sub-soil is of low bearing quality; choice between framed building and one using load bearing brick system is largely question of initial capital outlay.
