Prestressed Slab has Tubular Anchorages
Prestressed concrete pavement at London's Gatwick Airport has cast-in-place concrete edge strips and unique tubular sleeve anchorages to hold steel bars used in stressing slab; 6 1/2 in. thick, 132× 150 ft apron was post tensioned both ways with 1 1/8 in. diam high strength alloy steel bars; to minimize number of construction joints, slab strips extend full length of apron.
