Effects of varying water contents and pressures in semidry compaction of lower Kittanning clay
Effects of varying water content and pressure on porosity, bulk density and modulus of rupture of semidry pressed unfired and fired Lower Kittanning Clay were examined; small rectangular prisms were pressed from quartzose clay, containing kaolinite, chlorite and micas, at 5 to 13% by weight water and 600 to 2560 psi; irreversible expansion or contraction during firing, and microstructures of test pieces were studied.
