In 1962, Port of Le Havre Authority undertook accomplishment of extension program which includes construction of lock, with serviceable length of 400 m, 62 m wide, offering 17 m draft at high neap tide, and accessible to 150,000-ton ships; problems encountered are described; chosen plan is that of single massive structure of reinforced concrete which must be constructed aground in dredged berth.
