Aspects of design of reinforced concrete frames for adequate ductility under earthquake loadings; relationships between section properties and moment-curvature characteristics of sections with flexure and axial load are examined; deformations of reinforced concrete members and methods for calculating available plastic rotation at plastic hinges are reviewed; yield mechanisms that can develop in rectangular framed structures under seismic loading are examined, and method for determining section ductilities necessary to achieve required ductility factor is presented.
