Building costs. Lightweight concrete, stone concrete, steel
Costs were compared of building structures designed in light weight concrete, stone aggregate concrete, structural steel, and timber; complete designs and quantity takeoffs were prepared together with graphs to illustrate results; among conclusions -- in multistory buildings concrete frames are less costly than fireproofed steel frames, frames of light weight and of stone concrete cost about same; in most thin-shell types examined, light weight concrete yielded lower costs than stone concrete; as spans lengthen, savings with light weight concrete increase; in industrial buildings, at lower bay widths and spans, joist and beam systems of wood and steel are least costly.
