Zur Entwicklung aerodynamisch stabiler Haengebruecken
Development of aerodynamically stable suspension bridges; factors contributing to wind stability are discussed on grounds of author's own experience, wind tunnel tests, and literature data; effect of streamlining of bridge deck cross section by designing it as flat box girder with sharp pointed or rounded lateral edges, effect of omitting rigid supports at pylons, and damping of longitudinal displacements of deck by means of spring or hydraulic dampers are explained; high wind stability was achieved in recently built bridges of new design, namely, cable-stayed bridges and monocable bridges.
