Corrosion and corrosion protection of tendons in prestressed concrete bridges
Results of extensive state-of-art survey are reported and show that corrosion of tendons is caused mostly by improper construction techniques including handling, storage and shipping, and to lesser degree, by improper design; high quality, dense, and impervious concrete or grout can furnish permanent corrosion protection in most environments to which highway bridge is exposed, provided that certain requirements are satisfied; recommended corrosion preventing measures of civil engineering character are discussed in detail.
