Wind-induced lateral vibrations of stanchions of arch bridge over Moldau River; deck of 330 m span arch bridge is supported by welded tubular pin-ended stanchions of 1.0 m OD and 41.48 m maximum length; tests were made on means of increasing vibration damping by cables helically wound around stanchions and by filling stanchions with various granular materials; best results were obtained by latter method using coarse gravel as filling material; theoretical estimate of vibration amplitude and frequency was made using deterministic and stochastic interpretations.
